More than 500 people have been killed in the recent exchanges between Israel and Lebanon, with most casualties being fighters from Hezbollah and other armed groups. A recent Israeli strike in southern Lebanon resulted in the deaths of at least 10 Syrian nationals, including a woman and her two children. The strike targeted a weapons depot belonging to Hezbollah in Nabatieh province.
This escalation in violence began on October 8, following an attack by Hamas on southern Israel, which sparked the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza. Hezbollah has stated that they will cease their attacks on northern Israel once a ceasefire is reached in Gaza.
On the Israeli side, 22 soldiers and 25 civilians have been killed as a result of the conflict. In Gaza, the IDF has escalated their operations, targeting militants in the Khan Younis and Rafah areas. Despite purported peace talks, many parts of the Gaza strip are seeing mass displacement of Palestinians. The war has resulted in the deaths of over 40,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
Hezbollah has not yet commented on the recent strikes but has indicated that they will cease their attacks on Israel once a ceasefire is reached. The ongoing conflict has resulted in a significant loss of life, with no immediate end in sight.
