Royal Caribbean sued for negligence after former crew member installs hidden cameras in staterooms

Royal Caribbean is facing legal trouble after passengers filed a lawsuit over hidden cameras placed in state rooms by a former employee, Arvin Mirasol. Mirasol, who has been fired and is serving prison time, allegedly used hidden cameras to secretly record passengers on the Symphony of the Seas cruise ship. A class action lawsuit has been filed, claiming that Mirasol recorded naked females undressing in the bathroom, as well as instances of child pornography. The lawsuit also alleges that Mirasol would hide under beds and record guests naked while they were showering. The lawsuit covers a time frame from Dec. 1, 2023, to Feb. 26, 2024, when Mirasol was working on the ship. The lawsuit has been filed against Royal Caribbean for failing to protect passengers and failing to inform potential victims. The attorney representing the plaintiffs believes there could be upwards of a thousand people who were affected by the hidden cameras. Royal Caribbean has stated that the safety and privacy of their guests are their highest priority and that they have zero tolerance for this behavior. The plaintiff in the case has expressed feelings of overwhelming anxiety and worry following the incident. The attorney hopes that the lawsuit will bring attention to the issue and push for changes in the law to ensure the protection of passengers on cruise ships.
