A man is in custody after leading Choctaw police on a high-speed pursuit that ended in Midwest City. The chase happened around 11:30 a.m. when officers noticed a driver behaving erratically and attempted to pull him over. The pursuit reached speeds of 80-90 miles per hour and ended when the suspect crashed into a carport and two gas meters.
The driver, identified as Phillip Solinger, refused to cooperate with officers and was eventually subdued with a Taser. Despite significant damage to the vehicle, Solinger did not sustain serious injuries. During the chase, he was seen holding a Bible out of the car window.
Authorities are working to notify the homeowner about the property damage, and Solinger will be booked on complaints of eluding police. Oklahoma Natural Gas has confirmed that the damaged gas meters have since been repaired.
Choctaw Police Chief Kelly Marshall expressed gratitude that the chase occurred before the lunch rush and that no bystanders or officers were hurt. Marshall also noted that Solinger was lucky to escape without serious injuries, thanks to wearing his seatbelt during the crash.
Overall, the incident highlights the dangers of high-speed pursuits and the importance of following police instructions to prevent harm to oneself and others.
