Two bills aimed at legalizing sports betting in Oklahoma successfully passed out of the House on Wednesday, bringing the state one step closer to joining the growing number of states that have legalized sports betting. House Bill 1101 and House Bill 1047, both authored by state Rep. Ken Luttrell, received enough support to pass by margins of 66-29 and 62-31, respectively.
Oklahoma is currently one of only 10 states in the U.S. that does not have legal sports betting. Lawmakers have been attempting to pass legislation to bring sports betting to the state for several years, and this latest development marks a significant milestone in the process.
During the House floor debate, Rep. Luttrell commended his fellow legislators for their foresight and understanding of the economic benefits that could come from legalizing sports betting in Oklahoma. He highlighted the fact that the language in the bills had been passed before and expressed confidence in the positive impact that sports betting could have on the state.
With the passage of these bills, Oklahoma now moves closer to potentially legalizing sports betting and joining the ranks of other states that have already embraced this form of gambling. The next steps will involve further debate and consideration before the bills can become law and sports betting can be officially legalized in the state.
