Oklahoma state holiday in the making: Donald J. Trump Day | Billings News

State Sen. Dana Prieto, a Republican from Tulsa, attended a special session on Oct. 3, 2023, at the Oklahoma Capitol. On November 5, Oklahoma could potentially be celebrating President Donald J. Trump Day if Senate Bill 1105 passes. This bill would add another holiday to the state’s calendar, joining the likes of Jefferson Day on April 13 and Will Rogers Day on November 4. Sen. Prieto clarified that this holiday would not require employers to provide time off, as many holidays are often used as excuses for stores to have sales. The chosen date of November 5 was significant as it was the day voters elected Trump to a second term.

The measure passed the Senate Retirement and Government Resources Committee by a vote of 6-2 and is now headed to the Senate floor for further discussion and potential approval. The idea of naming landmarks or highways after Donald Trump is not new in Oklahoma, as in 2021, Gov. Kevin Stitt signed a bill designating a section of U.S. 287 between Boise City and the Oklahoma-Texas border as the President Donald J. Trump Highway.
