Adam Dorrel, head football coach at the University of Central Oklahoma, was arrested on suspicion of DUI after being reported as an erratic driver. The university stated they are assisting Dorrel in getting the help he needs. In a dash cam video, officers found Dorrel’s vehicle in the middle of a road, where he appeared to have difficulty communicating and smelled of alcohol. Dorrel admitted to going through a tough time when questioned by officers. He refused to exit his vehicle and became agitated when asked to take a sobriety test. Dorrel was subsequently arrested and taken to jail, where he apologized and thanked the officers for their handling of the situation. UCO officials expressed regret over Dorrel’s actions and said they are evaluating options to hold him accountable. In the meantime, Associate Head Coach James Curlee will lead the football program. Dorrel had just finished his fourth season as head coach and was named the 14th head coach of the program in 2021. The university is working to support Dorrel in getting the help he needs while addressing his actions, which they stated are not consistent with the standards of the Broncho community.
