New York authorities have identified two of the adult victims who died in a fatal helicopter crash as Agustín Escobar and Merce Camprubi Montal, a married couple from Spain. They were among the three adults and three children who perished in the accident. The couple’s children were believed to be the other victims, along with the pilot. Escobar was a senior executive at Siemens and was well-regarded in his field. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez called the crash an “unimaginable tragedy,” and Siemens expressed deep sadness over the loss of Escobar and his family.
The cause of the crash is still unknown and under investigation. The helicopter, which was conducting a tourist flight over Manhattan, lost control and crashed into the river after turning at the George Washington Bridge. Video footage showed the helicopter falling apart as it hit the water. President Donald Trump expressed his condolences to the families and friends of the victims, calling the crash “terrible.” The names of the other victims have not been released publicly yet. The entire incident has left many grieving and seeking answers about what led to the tragic accident.
