The Exchange Club of Muskogee’s Chili & BBQ Cook-Off was a hit this past weekend as barbecue lovers lined up to sample delicious dishes from various booths. Among them was the Okie Eggers booth, where Kynlea Compton, a 7-year-old, was busy slinging brisket to feed the crowd. The booth, known for its slow-cooked chicken wings, brisket, and ribs, won Grand Champion at the event.
Kristi Hoos, a member of the Okie Eggers team, explained that they slow cook their food in 50-gallon cans, a tradition that has attracted barbecue lovers and garnered awards for the team. Another popular booth was Ruckus Q, where mother and son duo Christina and Josiah Pearson raved about the mac and cheese, declaring it a game-changer.
Insurance Agent Don David also impressed attendees with his “Cajun Threauxdown” booth, featuring dishes with south Louisiana seasoning and flavors. While some attendees, like Steve Lange, wandered from booth to booth sampling various dishes, others, like Hoos and her husband Tracy, enjoyed cooking and perfecting their recipes year after year for the event.
Overall, the 41st annual Cook-Off was a success, raising money for children’s charities and bringing together the community for a weekend of tasty barbecue and fun.Attendees left satisfied and looking forward to next year’s event.
