An Afghan teenager, Abdullah Haji Zada, has pleaded guilty to charges of receiving and conspiring to receive a firearm and ammunition for a terrorist attack in Oklahoma. Zada, who was 17 at the time of his arrest, faces up to 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. He has also agreed to be removed from the United States after serving his sentence. Zada’s co-defendant, Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, a former security guard for an American military installation in Afghanistan, is awaiting trial for similar charges.
Prosecutors claim that Zada and Tawhedi planned to carry out an attack on Election Day last year targeting large crowds. They allegedly took steps to obtain AK-47 rifles and ammunition for the attack. Zada’s guilty plea marks a significant development in the case, with Tawhedi’s trial still pending.
