David Stone Decides to Stay at Oklahoma Instead of Transferring

After a brief stint in the transfer portal, freshman defensive tackle David Stone has decided to stay at the University of Oklahoma. Stone’s initial decision to enter the portal raised concerns for the Sooners, but he ultimately withdrew his name and made a public announcement on Twitter that he would be continuing his education and football career at OU.

Stone’s departure from the portal was a positive turn of events for the Oklahoma football program, as it would have been another blow to lose a talented 5-star recruit. The decision was influenced by changes in Stone’s contract following a tepid freshman season, which led to a renegotiation of his NIL package. Stone’s dedication to improving in winter workouts and spring practice, along with public support for his return, ultimately led to his reinstatement with the team.

The 6-foot-3, 313-pound tackle is expected to compete for playing time in the upcoming season alongside senior Damonic Williams, sophomore Jayden Jackson, and junior Gracen Halton. Despite playing limited snaps in his freshman year, Stone showed promise with six tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss, and one sack.

Stone’s decision to remain at Oklahoma comes as a relief to fans and coaches, with his position coach Todd Bates expressing gratitude for Stone’s commitment to the team. As the transfer portal window closes soon, Stone’s future at OU looks bright as he continues to develop as a key player on the team.
