Atlanta Falcons Select Safety Billy Bowman Jr. in 2025 NFL Draft
FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — The Atlanta Falcons bolstered their defensive lineup by selecting Oklahoma safety Billy Bowman Jr. with the 118th pick in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft on Saturday. Bowman becomes the fourth player the Falcons have picked this draft, joining Georgia linebacker Jalon Walker (15th overall), Tennessee linebacker James Pearce Jr. (26th overall), and Notre Dame safety Xavier Watts (96th overall). With the addition of Bowman, the Falcons have enhanced their secondary by drafting twice at the safety position.
Bowman, standing at 5’10" and weighing 192 pounds, brings impressive college credentials, having started 41 games over four seasons at Oklahoma. In 2023, he earned first-team All-Big 12 honors, tying for fourth in the FBS with six interceptions and leading the league with three pick-sixes. His 2024 season included 54 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions, and three pass breakups, earning him third-team All-SEC recognition.
NFL.com’s scouting report highlights that Bowman’s lack of size and tackling inconsistencies are potential drawbacks. Scout Lance Zierlein noted that while Bowman excels at man coverage and demonstrates great instincts, he may struggle against larger opponents in jump ball situations. Despite concerns about his tackling power, Bowman’s versatility as a safety-corner hybrid presents a promising opportunity for the Falcons.
With one pick remaining at No. 218 in the seventh round, the Falcons look to continue strengthening their roster as they head into the 2025 season.
