Georgia Bulldogs Claim Series Victory Over Oklahoma with Power-Hitting Performance
ATHENS, GA – The Georgia baseball team showcased their offensive prowess Saturday, hitting four home runs, including a decisive three-run shot by junior Brennan Hudson, to secure a 6-3 victory over Oklahoma at Foley Field. This win allowed the Bulldogs to bounce back after a Friday night loss, claiming the series in front of an excited sellout crowd.
Georgia overcame an early two-run deficit, maintaining their perfect record in SEC home series this season. Junior Kolby Branch was instrumental, launching two homers, the first tying the game in the third inning and the second extending Georgia’s lead in the seventh.
Hudson’s pivotal moment came in the sixth inning, coming in as a substitute for injured first baseman Ryland Zaborowski. With runners on first and second, Hudson connected on a fastball from Oklahoma starter Malachi Witherspoon, sending a towering 426-foot home run over the center-field wall to give Georgia a 4-2 lead. Coach Wes Johnson praised Hudson’s courage, saying, "It just takes one guy to get up there and do something special."
Branch’s first bomb electrified the crowd, while Robbie Burnett added to the excitement by hitting another solo homer later in the seventh, putting Georgia comfortably ahead at 6-2. Leighton Finley contributed a solid performance on the mound, striking out seven and allowing just two runs over five innings.
Alton Davis II earned the win in relief, with Tyler McLoughlin securing the save. With this victory, Georgia moves ahead of Oklahoma in the SEC standings. The Bulldogs will face Kennesaw State next, with the game set for Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Foley Field.
