Record-Breaking 2025 London Marathon Attracts Thousands

London, April 27, 2025 — The 2025 London Marathon has shattered records with an astounding 56,000 participants, including celebrities, MPs, and unique costumed runners, all navigating the iconic 26.2-mile course under a blazing sun. The event, now in its 45th year, witnessed not just a high turnout but also numerous personal bests among runners.

Heartfelt stories emerged from the race, such as Amie Begin, who completed all six world major marathons, and David Stancombe, running in memory of his daughter Elsie, tragically lost last year. Stancombe crossed the finish line in just under four and a half hours, expressing deep pride in raising funds for a local cause.

The searing heat posed a challenge, affecting many participants’ performances. Lindsey Burwell and Keith Billington both reported struggles due to the temperature, yet the camaraderie and vibrant energy of the event prevailed. Costumed runners added a sense of fun, with highlight outfits including a giant pizza and a set of test tubes, aiming to break world records for their creative attire.

Light-hearted moments included DJ Adele Roberts, who, despite undergoing treatment for bowel cancer, showcased resilience as she approached mile 21, and comedian Joel Dommett, who required assistance mid-race.

Among the elite runners, Sebastian Sawe claimed victory in the Men’s race, finishing in 2:02:25, while Tigst Assefa won the women’s elite category with a time of 2:15:50.

As police managed disruptions and thousands gathered to support runners, the event encapsulated the spirit of London—celebrating community, determination, and compassion in the face of adversity. The marathon continues to serve as a platform for fundraising and awareness, reflecting the heart of its participants and their causes.
