NFL Draft: Monitoring Free Agent Signings from OU

NFL Draft: Sooners Secure Free Agent Signings Amidst Fewest Draft Picks Since 2002

The Oklahoma Sooners experienced a mixed NFL Draft this year, marking their lowest number of drafted players since 2002. Linebacker Danny Stutsman and safety Billy Bowman were both selected in the fourth round, with Stutsman joining the New Orleans Saints and Bowman heading to the Atlanta Falcons.

While the draft results were modest for the Sooners, several players quickly found opportunities as undrafted free agents.

Defensive tackle Da’Jon Terry made headlines as the first free agent off the board, signing with the Los Angeles Rams. Over his two seasons at OU, Terry recorded 40 tackles, nine tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks, showcasing his defensive prowess.

Offensive lineman Michael Tarquin followed suit, signing with the Carolina Panthers. In his single season with the Sooners, Tarquin started seven of ten games, proving to be a key contributor to the team’s offensive line.

Ethan Downs, a three-year starter at defensive end, secured a contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Originally a four-star prospect, Downs evolved from a reserve role to a foundational player on the Sooners’ defensive line. Throughout his career, he tallied impressive stats—including 110 tackles, 32 tackles for loss, and 12.5 sacks—while earning All-Big 12 Second Team honors in 2022 and 2023.

As Sooners fans await the futures of other hopefuls in free agency, the program continues to develop talent ready for the next level. For real-time updates and detailed coverage of Oklahoma football, follow OUInsider on social media and subscribe for exclusive content.
