Winners Reflect on Unforgettable 2025 Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon
Oklahoma City, OK — In a heartfelt discussion on News 9, Ashley Carreon and Al Maeder, winners of the 2025 Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon, shared their emotional journeys and the race’s profound significance. Carreon marked her first win after finishing third in the previous year, while Maeder, a returning champion, expressed the joy of competing in this iconic event that honors the 168 lives lost in the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building.
Both racers described their experiences on the course and the unique challenges they faced. Carreon, whose training culminated in a personal best half-marathon time just months before, shared her determination: “I thought I had a good shot…so I’m going to go for it.” Throughout the race, she remained focused, strategically pacing herself, acknowledging the humidity that could deplete her energy.
Maeder illustrated the exhilarating energy of the marathon; his excitement was palpable as he recounted how the crowd’s support motivated him. “It’s not just about winning. It’s about doing something you love for the community,” he remarked.
Reflecting on their victories, Carreon and Maeder both conveyed pride in their hard work and gratitude for the community’s support. While preparing to return to their respective jobs at Integris Health and SSM Health, they expressed how the marathon brings the community together.
“The Marathon feels bigger than just a race. It has a significant impact on our city,” Maeder stated. The 2025 Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon not only showcased athleticism but also the spirit of community, perseverance, and remembrance.
