Moser and Sooners Secure Commitment from Alabama Transfer Derrion Reid

Press Release: Oklahoma Sooners Strengthen Roster with Top Transfers

The Oklahoma Sooners, under head coach Porter Moser, have made significant strides in bolstering their basketball roster through the transfer portal. They recently secured commitments from several standout players, including Notre Dame’s Tae Davis, who averaged 15.1 points and 5.3 rebounds, and Miami’s Nijel Pack, a skilled guard with over 12 points per game across five seasons. They also added St. Joe’s Xzayvier Brown, who contributed 17.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.3 assists in his last season.

In a significant move, Oklahoma has now added Alabama transfer Derrion Reid. Although his statistics from the past season — 6 points and 2.8 rebounds per game — may not be eye-catching, Reid brings impressive potential as a five-star recruit and McDonald’s All-American from the 2024 class. Despite encountering injuries that limited his playing time to just 24 games, Reid showcased his talent by scoring in double figures six times, including an 11-point performance against the Sooners.

Reid’s impressive EYBL circuit performance with Team Thad, where he averaged 17.9 points and 6.5 rebounds, has also garnered attention. His shooting ability was notable, with a 42% average from beyond the arc during his senior year at Prolific Prep, compared to less favorable stats at Alabama.

What sets Reid apart is his defensive versatility, attracting interest from programs like NC State, Ole Miss, BYU, and Florida. He is expected to contribute significantly for Oklahoma, fitting well into the team’s forward spots alongside fellow new recruit Davis and existing players Jeff Nwankwo and Jadon Jones.

With a strong roster in place, the Sooners look poised for an exciting season ahead. For exclusive updates on Oklahoma basketball, fans can follow @OUInsider on social media or subscribe to their platforms for in-depth coverage.
