Press Release: Oklahoma Sooners Snag Jaydn Ott and Jake Maikkula in Transfer Portal Moves
April 18, 2024
The Oklahoma Sooners have made significant additions to their football roster, announcing the commitments of former Cal running back Jaydn Ott and Stanford offensive lineman Jake Maikkula on Tuesday. This comes amid a flurry of high-profile moves in the spring transfer portal.
Jaydn Ott has established himself as one of the most productive running backs in college football. In the 2023 season, he rushed 246 times for an impressive 1,315 yards and 12 touchdowns, while also contributing with 25 receptions for 169 yards and two scores. His performance ranked him among the top 14 running backs in the nation for rushing yards, showcasing his ability as a dynamic offensive threat.
However, the 2024 season proved to be challenging for Ott, who struggled with injuries, limiting him to just 116 carries for 385 yards and four touchdowns. This downturn followed a promising freshman year where he recorded 170 carries for 897 yards and eight touchdowns, alongside 46 catches for 345 yards and three touchdowns. Ott’s departure marks a significant loss for Cal, who finished the season at 6-6 in their inaugural year in the ACC.
In addition to Ott, the Sooners have secured Jake Maikkula, a skilled offensive lineman with 11 starts last season at Stanford. Maikkula brings two seasons of eligibility with him, adding depth and experience to Oklahoma’s offensive line.
As they prepare for the upcoming season, the Sooners are looking to capitalize on these strategic additions, aiming to enhance their competitiveness in college football.
