Texas Animal Control Officer Adopts Rescued Boa Constrictor
April 29 (UPI) – In a heartwarming rescue, a 5-foot boa constrictor has found a new forever home with the very officer who saved her. Arlington Animal Control Officer David Davis responded to a call about a snake spotted in a tree at Veterans Park. Initially skeptical about the need for a rescue, Davis was intrigued when he learned it was a python.
Arriving swiftly at the scene, Davis skillfully brought the red-tailed boa constrictor down from the tree. Photos posted by Arlington Animal Services show the officer gently handling the snake, who is believed to have been a pet that had escaped. “I certainly hope somebody didn’t dump her, but they’re known for getting out of their aquariums,” Davis commented.
After a brief hold to allow for any potential owners to claim her, the snake became available for adoption when no one stepped forward. It didn’t take long for Davis to decide to make her part of his family. “She needed a good home, and I felt like me and my son and my wife could give her one,” he explained.
Davis has named the boa “Ruby,” reflecting her vibrant red tail. The adoption emphasizes the importance of responsible pet ownership, particularly for exotic animals like boa constrictors. Davis’s quick response not only saved Ruby’s life but also provided her with a loving home, showing the strong bond that can form between humans and rescued animals. This story highlights a successful rescue while shedding light on the significance of adopting stray pets in need.
