Bulldogs Prepare for the 2025 GAC Softball Championships

SWOSU Softball Returns to GAC Championships for First Time Since 2019

BENTONVILLE, Ark. — The Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) Bulldogs softball team is set to make a triumphant return to the Great American Conference (GAC) Softball Championships, facing the second-seeded Oklahoma Baptist on Thursday, May 1, at 3:30 PM. This marks their first appearance in the tournament since 2019.

The Bulldogs, finishing the season with a record of 22-24 and a conference record of 14-19, secured the No. 7 seed after a tiebreaker with Henderson State. Their 22 victories are the highest total since 2012. Historically, SWOSU holds a 2-5 record in GAC tournaments, having competed in Bentonville during 2012, 2013, and 2019.

In their regular-season matchups against Oklahoma Baptist, SWOSU posted a 1-2 record, narrowly losing the first two games before salvaging a victory in the series finale. In that win, pitcher Alexis Taylor showcased her skills with six strong innings, earning 11 strikeouts.

Heading into the postseason, the Bulldogs are on a hot streak, having won nine of their last ten games, including a critical late-season surge with three consecutive series wins against Ouachita, Henderson, and Arkansas Tech. April was particularly strong for SWOSU, posting a 10-4 record, with several players excelling at the plate. Notably, Chesnie Hewitt maintained a .432 batting average, leading the team in multiple categories, while also boasting a ten-game hitting streak.

In the circle, freshman Alexis Taylor has been dominant, finishing the season with a 14-10 record and a 3.41 ERA, while Jaycee McKee provided support as the team’s prominent reliever.

As the Bulldogs prepare for the quarterfinal clash, fans are hopeful for a strong showing and a deep tournament run.
