Oklahoma Secures Transfer Portal Wide Receiver

Oklahoma Sooner Football Welcomes Receiver Jer’Michael Carter from McNeese State

In a significant boost for the Oklahoma Sooners football team, receiver Jer’Michael Carter has officially committed to the program, marking a key addition from the spring transfer portal. Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 190 pounds, Carter chose Oklahoma over competitive offers from Baylor and Vanderbilt, as reported by 247Sports.

Carter’s journey began at Kentwood High School in Louisiana, leading to his collegiate debut at McNeese State. During his freshman season in 2023, he made an impactful start, recording three receptions for 56 yards in just four games. His sophomore year, however, showcased his true potential, as he amassed 37 catches for 537 yards and three touchdowns, consistently making plays throughout all 12 games.

One of Carter’s standout performances came against Houston Christian, where he snagged five passes for 108 yards. He also shined in games against Nicholls and Lamar, solidifying his status as one of the top uncommitted players in the transfer portal.

Carter’s arrival is particularly timely for the Sooners following an injury to fellow receiver Javonnie Gibson, who sustained a broken leg during spring practice. While Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables expressed optimism about Gibson’s recovery, Carter’s versatility will certainly enhance the team’s depth.

With additional promising players like Deion Burks returning from injury and Arkansas transfer Isaiah Sategna stepping up during spring drills, Oklahoma’s receiving corps is gradually coming together. Freshman talents Elijah Thomas and Manny Choice are also expected to play crucial roles this upcoming season.

As the Sooners gear up for their 2025 campaign, the addition of Jer’Michael Carter is anticipated to make a notable impact, providing a dynamic weapon for the offensive strategy ahead.
