Oklahoma State Women’s Tennis Team Garner Big 12 Honors
IRVING, Texas – The Oklahoma State women’s tennis team made a significant impact in the Big 12 yearly awards, with six members receiving recognition announced by the conference on Wednesday. The Cowgirls led the conference with nine unique award selections, outpacing UCF’s eight, and their three first-team singles picks tied for the most alongside the Knights.
Rose Marie Nijkamp shone brightly, being named the Big 12 Freshman of the Year, only the third player in program history to receive this honor, following Mhai Sawangkaew and Viktoriya Lushkova. Nijkamp also earned spots on the All-Big 12 First Team for both singles and doubles, as well as the All-Big 12 Freshman Team.
Joining Nijkamp on the First Team in both categories was Anastasiya Komar, who earned her second consecutive selection in singles and doubles. Melisa Ercan made the First Team in singles while also receiving a Freshman Team nod. Gracie Epps claimed a place on the All-Big 12 Second Team in singles, and the duo of Kylie Collins and Marcela Lopez were recognized on the All-Big 12 Second Team for doubles.
Nijkamp’s exceptional season included an undefeated 10-0 record in conference singles play, and 11-0 in doubles, along with victories in the Big 12 Championships. Komar also excelled, with an impressive 10-2 record at the No. 2 singles position.
As they gear up for their 13th consecutive NCAA Tournament, the Cowgirls will face Tulsa on Friday at 11 a.m. in the Norman Regional, aiming to advance past the first round for the 11th time in the last 12 tournaments.
