Press Release: Former Lawrence QB Banks Bowen Transfers to Oklahoma State
Lawrence, KS – After spending a semester with the Tulsa football team, Banks Bowen, the former quarterback for Lawrence High School, has confirmed his transfer to Oklahoma State University. Bowen announced his decision to enter the portal on April 25 via social media and received an offer from Oklahoma State the following day. He committed to the Cowboys after an official visit on Monday.
Bowen expressed excitement about joining a program known for its strong quarterback development. "I really like coach Kevin Johns and trust his experience in coaching the position," he stated. Johns has a commendable background, previously mentoring Notre Dame’s Riley Leonard at Duke.
The transfer is significant for Bowen, as he will reunite with his father, Clint Bowen, who has transitioned from head coach at Lawrence High to an offensive quality control coach at Oklahoma State. “Having him there will be beneficial, especially in learning the OSU playbook,” Banks noted.
Bowen’s journey in college football began at Tulsa, where he dedicated his time to acclimating to the athletic and academic rigors of Division I sports. He gained 10 pounds of muscle during his time with the Golden Hurricane and is now focused on further refining his skills.
At Oklahoma State, he joins a depth chart that currently includes only two other quarterbacks, providing him with a promising opportunity. Bowen remains committed to improving his mechanics and understanding of the game.
He plans to complete his semester at Tulsa before moving to Stillwater, and he is eager to dive into the playbook and start training with his new team. In a nod to his high school roots, Bowen intends to return to Lawrence to participate in his graduation ceremony. “It’s always been my goal to reach the Power Five level,” he affirmed.
