Good Samaritans Save Woman from Carjacking Attempt in N.J., Authorities Report

In a dramatic incident in Waterford Township, Camden County, New Jersey, three individuals, including two Army reservists, intervened to save a woman from an attempted carjacking. This took place on a Thursday morning when 45-year-old Rondean McDonald crashed his vehicle and, in an ensuing altercation, entered the car of a 59-year-old woman who had stopped to help. Witnesses reported that McDonald demanded the woman drive him, but she refused. As she attempted to call 911, he violently grabbed her phone, then attacked her, scratching her and choking her while yelling for her to drive.

Joseph Knazek, a bystander, witnessed the assault and described the struggle, noting that the woman was fighting back while becoming entangled in her seatbelt. He intervened by holding McDonald’s wrists as he attempted to free the woman. The situation escalated when two Army reservists, one of whom was a Philadelphia police officer, arrived on the scene. They used a fire extinguisher to break the driver’s side window and successfully extricated McDonald from the vehicle, subsequently restraining him until police arrived.

The victim was transported to a local hospital and reported to be in stable condition after the traumatic encounter. Rondean McDonald was arrested and charged with several crimes, including carjacking and driving under the influence. The swift and brave actions of the three Good Samaritans played a crucial role in preventing a potentially tragic outcome.
