Southeastern Oklahoma Triumphs Over Harding in GAC Semifinals

Bentonville, Ark. – In a decisive semifinal match of the Great American Conference Tournament, Southeastern Oklahoma University defeated Harding University 4-2, concluding Harding’s season on Friday.

Southeastern Oklahoma (15-5) established an early advantage by securing two of the three doubles matches. The highlight was the performance of the No. 30-ranked duo, Carol Mora Camacho and Jou Chen Chen, who bested Harding’s Karli Roux and Alexia Zarate Valdez with a score of 6-4. Meanwhile, Tania Sfilio and Sara Gonzalez dominated their match against Harding’s Natalia Alvarez and Itza Rogel, winning 6-0. The No. 3 doubles match remained unfinished, with Harding’s Sofia Sarmiento Ruiz and Madison Stafford trailing 4-5 against Emilse Ruiz and Amishi Shukla.

In singles play, Harding saw victories from No. 12 Alexia Zarate Valdez and No. 47 Karli Roux. Zarate Valdez defeated Camacho 6-4, 6-3, while Roux triumphed over Milana Voloshyn 6-4, 6-1. However, Southeastern Oklahoma clinched the match with strong performances from Larissa Giraldo Correa, who overpowered Itza Rogel 6-1, 6-0, and Sara Gonzalez, who defeated Natalia Alvarez 6-1, 6-2. Amishi Shukla secured the team’s fourth point by narrowly defeating Sofia Sarmiento Ruiz 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-3. The match between Madison Stafford and Emilse Ruiz was left unfinished.

Harding concludes its season with a 10-12 record, while Southeastern Oklahoma advances in the tournament. Match duration was 3 hours and 35 minutes, showcasing a competitive atmosphere on the court.
