UCF Falls to Oklahoma State in Tight Matchup, 3-1

STILLWATER, Okla. – In a hard-fought contest at O’Brate Stadium, UCF’s baseball team dropped a 3-1 decision to Oklahoma State on Saturday night, resulting in the Cowboys clinching the series. UCF’s Russell Sandefer delivered a stellar performance, going 6.1 innings and striking out eight, but the Knights could not overcome late-game challenges.

Both teams exhibited strong pitching early on, with Oklahoma State (21-21, 9-11 Big 12) gaining the first advantage in the third inning. UCF (24-22, 6-17 Big 12) struggled to capitalize on offensive opportunities until the seventh when Andrew Williamson launched a solo home run to tie the game at 1-1. This marked Williamson’s team-leading ninth homer of the season.

However, Oklahoma State quickly regained control, scoring twice in the seventh inning. Brock Thompson and Drew Culbertson each contributed RBIs to extend the Cowboys’ lead to 3-1. Despite a leadoff single by DeAmez Ross in the final inning, UCF could not convert and ultimately fell short as Oklahoma State’s Gabe Davis closed out the game with three consecutive outs.

Oklahoma State’s Mario Pesca earned the victory, improving to 4-2 after allowing just one run over 7.1 innings while striking out five. UCF’s Sandefer took the tough-luck loss, dropping to 2-3 despite a commendable performance.

Williamson stood out for UCF, going 2-for-4 with a double and home run, contributing the Knights’ only run. UCF will aim to avoid a sweep in the series finale against OSU on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. CT, before heading to Missouri State for a midweek matchup.
