OSU Cowboys Dominate Baylor with 4-0 Victory Behind Pesca’s Stellar Pitching
WACO, Texas – The Oklahoma State Cowboys achieved their sixth consecutive victory with a commanding 4-0 triumph over Baylor at Baylor Ballpark on Saturday. This win marks the longest winning streak of the season for the Cowboys, improving their overall record to 24-21 and their Big 12 conference record to 12-11. Conversely, Baylor’s record dropped to 30-20 and 10-16 in league play.
Mario Pesca delivered an outstanding pitching performance, going eight innings without allowing a run. The right-hander improved to 5-2 with a career-high outing, yielding just four hits while walking four and striking out five on 116 pitches. Pesca gained momentum throughout the game, as he did not surrender a hit over the last 4 2/3 innings. He also benefitted from a sturdy OSU infield, which executed three double plays—tying their season-high.
The Cowboys took an early lead when Nolan Schubart hit a two-run home run in the first inning, marking his 14th homer of the season and 54th of his career, which ties him for sixth place on OSU’s all-time list. Kollin Ritchie added a solo home run in the ninth inning, and the Cowboys secured their victory with a run from Ian Daugherty, who scored on a throwing error after reaching base with a single and stealing second.
Relief pitcher Ryan Ure closed the game in the ninth, retiring all three batters he faced, including two by way of strikeout, sealing the shutout—OSU’s fifth of the season, with three occurring in conference play.
The Cowboys will aim for a series sweep against Baylor on Sunday at 1 p.m.
