Mother and Children Rescued from Tornado Aftermath with Inmate Work Crew’s Help
Pittsburg County, OK – May 28, 2025
In a heartwarming turn of events, a mother and her three children are finally able to leave their home after being trapped for over a week due to the devastation caused by a tornado on May 20. The family’s rural home was rendered inaccessible when an EF-3 tornado downed trees and blocked the road leading to their residence.
With local county crews stretched thin, assistance was sought through social media. Margaret Green, Warden of the Mack Alford Correctional Center, responded by organizing a dedicated work crew of around a dozen inmate volunteers. The Oklahoma Department of Corrections acknowledged that without this initiative, it would have taken county teams several additional days to reach the family.
Thanks to the quick action of the inmate work crew, the road was cleared within just a few hours, allowing the grateful family to safely leave their home. This incident highlights the importance of collaborative efforts in times of crisis, showcasing how members of the community can come together, regardless of their circumstances, to assist those in need.

For this family, the support they received not only restored their means of transportation but also reaffirmed the strength of community solidarity in the face of adversity.
