Texas Upsets Four-Time Defending Champion Oklahoma in Women’s CWS

Texas Takes Down Oklahoma in Women’s College World Series Showdown

OKLAHOMA CITY — In a thrilling matchup at the Women’s College World Series, the Texas Longhorns triumphed over the four-time defending champions, the Oklahoma Sooners, with a 4-2 victory on Saturday. This win propels Texas (53-11) into the semifinals, where they stand just one win away from reaching the championship series for the third time in four years.

The game featured standout performances from Texas players Kayden Henry and Joley Mitchell, both of whom launched solo home runs to secure the win against a team that had dominated them in recent years. Oklahoma (51-8), which has bested Texas in two of the past three championship series and entered with a six-game winning streak against the Longhorns, will now face Oregon in an elimination game on Sunday.

Texas pitcher Teagan Kavan showcased her skills on the mound, allowing only one earned run and scattering seven hits while striking out eight batters, earning her the victory. Kavan’s resilience was key, especially considering two of her five losses this season came at the hands of the Sooners. Conversely, Oklahoma’s Sam Landry took the loss, giving up three earned runs across six innings.

In a decisive moment, Henry’s solo home run down the right field line in the fifth inning propelled Texas into a 3-2 lead. Despite Oklahoma’s efforts, including pushing a runner to third in the sixth inning, they were unable to score. Mitchell solidified Texas’ advantage with a solo shot to left center, extending the lead to 4-2. Despite having runners on first and second with one out in the final inning, Kavan’s precision struck out the last two batters, sealing the victory for the Longhorns.
