Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri Strengthens India-U.S. Ties During Washington Visit
New Delhi, June 1 (ANI) – Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri concluded a significant three-day visit to Washington, D.C., from May 27 to 29, engaging in high-level discussions with top U.S. officials amid efforts to deepen bilateral relations. His visit, which followed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s February trip to the U.S., focused on enhancing the newly launched India-U.S. COMPACT aimed at boosting military partnerships, commerce, and technology.
Misri’s agenda included meetings with senior representatives from the Department of State, National Security Council, Department of Defence, and other key agencies. During a luncheon with Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau, discussions emphasized technology, trade, and talent as crucial components of the evolving partnership.
Significant dialogue surrounding defense cooperation took place with Deputy Secretary of Defence Steve Feinberg and Under Secretary for Policy Elbridge Colby, further affirming the commitment to a robust defense relationship. Key topics included co-development initiatives, military exercises, and information-sharing frameworks to enhance interoperability.
Engagements with Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Michael Faulkender focused on strengthening economic ties and collaboration within international financial institutions. Misri also discussed the India-U.S. Bilateral Trade Agreement and advancements in critical technology sectors with Under Secretary of Commerce Jeffrey Kessler.
In line with the COMPACT’s vision, expansive discussions covered strategic areas like energy security, counter-terrorism, and initiatives involving the Quad and I2U2. Misri, alongside Deputy National Security Advisor Pavan Kapoor, hosted a roundtable with industry leaders to foster collaboration in emerging technologies, further underlining the depth of the India-U.S. strategic partnership.
