Title: Oklahoma Youth Leading Agriculture Conference Empowers Future Leaders in Agriculture
Oklahoma City, May 30 – Twenty high school seniors from across Oklahoma honed their leadership and agricultural skills at the Oklahoma Farm Bureau’s (OKFB) annual Oklahoma Youth Leading Agriculture (OYLA) conference, held from May 27 to May 30. Hosted by OKFB’s Young Farmers & Ranchers, this four-day conference is designed to prepare students for successful careers in agriculture while enhancing their leadership capabilities.
Participants included Channing Anderson (Coweta), Kyden Archuleta (Burlington), and Annie Schneider (Seiling), among others. Annie reflected on her experience, stating, “OYLA has equipped me with the resources necessary for me to succeed in agriculture now and in the future and be a voice for agriculture in my community.”
Throughout the conference, students engaged in tours of various agricultural enterprises, including Lopez Foods, Whitmore Farms, and the Oklahoma State University Student Farm. They also participated in a community service project at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, where they helped package meals for underserved communities.
A highlight of the event was a visit to the Oklahoma State Capitol, where attendees learned about agricultural policy and legislative processes from the OKFB public policy team. OKFB President Rodd Moesel addressed the group, outlining the organization’s efforts to advocate for agriculture and rural Oklahoma.
Selected through a competitive application process, these promising students represent the future of agriculture, planning to pursue degrees in areas such as agribusiness, agricultural communications, and animal science. Leveraging the skills acquired at OYLA, these young leaders are prepared to continue their trajectory of leadership development within their communities and beyond.
