Press Release: Oklahoma City Rises in Mosquito Frequency Rankings, Experts Urge Precautions
Oklahoma City, OK – As summer approaches, Oklahoma City has surged 12 spots in Orkin’s annual mosquito frequency rankings, highlighting the increasing need for pest control awareness among residents. The data reflects service requests made last year, emphasizing the growing concern over mosquito populations.
Orkin entomologist Frank Meek advises residents to practice the BITE protocol to reduce exposure: Block access to skin with long sleeves, Install tight-fitting screens on windows and doors, Trim vegetation to eliminate hiding spots, and Eliminate standing water where mosquitoes breed. “You never know which mosquitoes are carrying diseases,” Meek warns, stressing the importance of preventative measures.
Meek emphasizes that mosquitoes will remain active until the first frost, underscoring the necessity of both personal precautions and preventative treatments at homes and properties. He cautions against scratching mosquito bites, which can lead to secondary infections, and urges anyone who feels sick to consult a doctor.
Tulsa also made the list, ranking 32nd for mosquito frequency, further highlighting the region’s battle with these pests.
As summer gears up, homeowners are reminded to stock up on bug spray and sunscreen, and to stay vigilant against the potential health risks associated with mosquito bites. By implementing the BITE protocol and seeking professional pest control services, Oklahomans can enjoy their summer activities while minimizing mosquito-related concerns.
