Measles Exposure at Guymon Walmart Sparks Health Advisory

By Amanda Siew
Guymon, Okla. – June 2, 2025 (11:46 PM)

The Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) has issued a warning regarding potential measles exposure at the Walmart Supercenter in Guymon. A confirmed measles case visited the store located at 2600 US-64 on May 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. while contagious.

Health officials are urging anyone who was in the store during that timeframe, especially unvaccinated individuals or those concerned about exposure, to report their names and contact information confidentially online. This proactive measure is part of the OSDH’s efforts to monitor and contain the spread of the virus.

As of last Friday, Oklahoma has reported a total of 17 measles cases this year, including 14 confirmed cases and three probable cases. Alarmingly, nearly all cases have involved unvaccinated individuals, underscoring the importance of immunization against this highly contagious disease.

The OSDH updates the public on measles cases across the state every Tuesday and Friday at noon via its online measles dashboard, maintaining transparency in health communication.

Officials continue to emphasize the importance of vaccination as a safeguard against measles, which can have serious health consequences. Community members are encouraged to verify their vaccination status and seek vaccination if necessary to protect themselves and others from potential outbreaks.

This announcement serves as a critical reminder for the residents of Guymon and surrounding areas to remain vigilant about their health, particularly in the context of rising measles cases statewide. Individuals seeking more information are advised to visit the OSDH’s website or contact local health authorities.
