Texas Tech Advances to Championship Series After Thrilling Win Over Oklahoma

In a remarkable showdown, Texas Tech has secured its place in the Women’s College World Series (WCWS) Championship series after a hard-fought victory against Oklahoma. Coach Patty Gasso praised Texas Tech’s performance, stating they "earned it" through impressive hitting and pitching.

Texas Tech’s head coach Gerry Glasco rallied his team after they relinquished their lead, emphasizing the difficulty of facing Oklahoma: “We don’t want it to be easy. Let’s go to work right here,” he encouraged the team, motivating them to clinch the win in the bottom of the seventh inning.

This marks Texas Tech’s inaugural appearance at the WCWS, where they will face Texas in a best-of-three series starting Wednesday. The Longhorns have reached the finals for the third time in the last four years, but are still seeking redemption after losses to Oklahoma in both 2022 and 2024.

Star pitcher Sam Landry, the No. 1 pick in the Athletes Unlimited Softball draft, faced defeat despite her strong performance. Glasco, who coached Landry at Louisiana last season, shared an emotional moment with his former player post-game. “It’s bittersweet,” Landry reflected, expressing joy for her Texas Tech teammates.

Texas Tech’s ace, Canady, despite losing her shutout, led her team to victory. A two-time reigning National Fastpitch Coaches Association Pitcher of the Year, she signed a notable NIL deal worth over $1 million when transferring from Stanford. Canady commented on the team’s perseverance, asserting they played with no pressure, just the desire to enjoy the game.

Oklahoma’s long-standing dominance saw a challenge this season, transitioning with a roster of nine freshmen and just three seniors. Coach Gasso remains optimistic about her inexperienced team’s future, having encouraged them through their growth and resilience throughout the tournament.

As the stage is set for the championship, the excitement continues to build around Texas Tech and Texas as they vie for the title.
