Severe Weather Alerts Issued for Northeast Oklahoma
Northeast Oklahoma is bracing for a series of severe storms as the News On 6 Weather Team reports significant weather activity Tuesday evening. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been declared for Creek, Muskogee, Okmulgee, Rogers, Tulsa, and Wagoner counties, effective until 8:15 p.m. Additionally, a Tornado Watch is in place for various counties including Creek, Hughes, Lincoln, and Tulsa, remaining active until 10 p.m.
As of 8:38 p.m., News On 6 Chief Meteorologist Travis Meyer indicated that storm trackers are monitoring dangerous conditions closely, particularly south of the Tulsa viewing area near Atoka, where a tornado warning is currently active. Heavy rainfall continues to drench regions from Miami to McAlester, prompting aerial flood advisories in northeastern Oklahoma and parts of Kansas.
Earlier reports from the field noted that while heavy rains persist west of Miami, the storm system is showing signs of calming near Porter. However, the threat remains with a strong storm anticipated to affect Kiowa and Pittsburg County. A warning was also issued for Coal County, with movements tracked toward the northeastern parts of the state.
As severe thunderstorms stretch from Sapulpa to Okmulgee, residents in the Tulsa metro area are urged to remain vigilant, with reports of strong winds and weakened rotation near Skiatook and Sperry. The National Weather Service is advising residents to “hunker down,” as storm systems continue to progress through the area.
The News On 6 team will provide continuous updates as conditions evolve, ensuring viewers stay informed and safe during this unpredictable weather event.
