Oklahoma City Man Sentenced to Over 11 Years for Illegal Firearm Possession
OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) — Charles Darnell Hunter, a 50-year-old resident of Oklahoma City, has been sentenced to 137 months in federal prison for illegally possessing a firearm following past felony convictions.
Hunter was charged on May 7, after a shooting incident on January 20, 2024, where a man sustained a gunshot wound to the head. Witnesses reported seeing a black truck with a gun pointed out of the window shortly before the incident. The victim survived his injuries. Oklahoma City Police Department (OCPD) investigators traced the vehicle back to Hunter, leading to a search warrant executed at his residence on February 1, 2024, where two firearms were seized. One of the firearms was linked to the cartridge cases found at the shooting scene.
Despite Hunter’s history of felony convictions, which includes offenses such as first-degree robbery and possession of a firearm, he pleaded guilty on September 24, 2024, acknowledging that he possessed a firearm in violation of federal law. At his sentencing on May 30, 2025, the judge imposed a lengthy prison term, which will be followed by three years of supervised release.
Hunter’s criminal record also indicates pending charges in Oklahoma County District Court, including shooting with intent to kill, drive-by shooting, and other firearm-related offenses connected to gang activity.
U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester emphasized the seriousness of Hunter’s actions and the commitment to enforcing gun laws. The case serves as a reminder of the legal repercussions connected to illegal firearm possession, especially for individuals with prior felony convictions.
