Oklahoma Linebacker Izzy Hammons Attends Camp and Secures Offer from TTU

Texas Tech Football Welcomes Recruits for Annual Junior Day

LUBBOCK, TX – Texas Tech Football recently hosted its annual Junior Day on January 18, welcoming football recruits to Lubbock. Participants, including many with existing offers from the Red Raiders, were treated to a firsthand experience of Texas Tech football and a Men’s Basketball game against Arizona.

Among the attendees was Choctaw (OK) athlete Izzy Hammons, who visited despite not having an offer at the time. The 6-foot-3, 225-pound prospect left Lubbock without an offer, but a subsequent return on June 1 for Texas Tech’s first summer camp proved pivotal. After impressing the coaching staff, Hammons received his first offer from a Power 4 program, significantly elevating Texas Tech’s position in his college recruitment.

Following the camp, Hammons shared his thoughts with RedRaiderSports, expressing enthusiasm about reconnecting with the Texas Tech coaching staff. "It was really good. I’ve been talking to Texas Tech since after my freshman year, so getting back with them is like meeting the other half of the family," he remarked. He specifically highlighted his rapport with Coach Ah You, stating, "Me and him have a real strong relationship," and appreciated the guidance and lessons he received during his camp experience.

Currently, Hammons holds offers from Texas Tech and North Texas, having played a crucial role in leading Choctaw High School to a 6A-2 State Championship, marking the school’s first football championship since 1960. As his recruitment heats up, Texas Tech is expected to remain a strong contender for his commitment.
