Three-Star DE Matthew Nelson Commits to Oklahoma Following Official Visit Confirmation

Bryant DE Matthew Nelson Commits to Oklahoma Sooners

In a pivotal moment for the Oklahoma Sooners’ recruiting efforts, Matthew Nelson, a defensive end from Bryant, Arkansas, officially committed to the team following his visit to Norman this past weekend. The decision comes on the heels of his participation in Oklahoma’s prospect camp just a week earlier, where it became clear to insiders that Nelson was leaning towards a commitment.

Nelson announced his decision via social media, attributing much of his choice to the connections he made during his visit, particularly with player-host PJ Adebawore. “Talking to PJ and the other players helped me see how I fit in,” Nelson shared. His family, which accompanied him on the visit, had been encouraging him to commit even before he was ready. “They were saying, what are you waiting for?” Nelson laughed, reflecting on his younger brother’s playful insistence to take action if he hesitated.

The actual commitment took place in a casual yet memorable setting: inside coaches’ Miguel Chavis’ office. Nelson presented him with a poker chip that read “All In,” humorously quipping about its significance as he made his commitment official.

The visit was not just a serious affair; Nelson enjoyed memorable moments, including late-night go-karting and late-night dining at Popeye’s with players. He becomes the eighth commitment to Oklahoma’s 2026 recruiting class and the fourth defensive pledge. Notably, he joins his high school teammate Jakore Smith in bolstering the Sooners’ roster as they look to expand their class in the coming weeks.

With his commitment, Nelson adds strength to a promising Oklahoma class, reflecting the program’s increasing momentum in recruiting efforts.
