‘Prankster’ Disrupts Katy Perry Concert in Sydney

During her concert in Sydney on June 4, pop star Katy Perry experienced an unexpected incident when a fan rushed the stage and briefly grabbed her. The event occurred at Qudos Bank Arena during her “Lifetimes Tour,” which is currently sold out for three dates. Footage from the concert, verified by NBC News, showed a man approaching Perry, placing an arm around her, and dancing wildly as she performed her 2008 hit “Hot N Cold.” Clearly startled, Perry quickly distanced herself while joking with the audience, prompting concern as security intervened.

The man in question, identified as Johnson Wen, was apprehended for trespassing and obstructing security. He had jumped on stage around 9:20 p.m. local time and was subsequently banned from Sydney Olympic Park for six months. Wen describes himself as a “prankster” on TikTok and has a history of similar interruptions, having previously stormed stages at events like a concert by The Weeknd and the FIFA Women’s World Cup final. After the incident, he expressed regret, stating, “I’m planning to quit forever, because you get in way too much trouble for it.”

The incident raises concerns about increasingly erratic behavior from concertgoers, evidenced by similar occurrences involving artists like Harry Styles and Lady Gaga. While authorities have taken action against Wen, Perry has yet to make a detailed public statement regarding the disruption. Despite this, her tour will proceed, with another show scheduled in Sydney before moving on to Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide.
