Oklahoma Man Plotting Terror Attack on Sooners’ Stadium Arrested
An Oklahoma man, Landon Kyle Swinford, has been implicated in a plot to carry out a terrorist attack at the Gaylord Family — Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, home to the Oklahoma Sooners. Court records reveal that Swinford, who expressed allegiance to ISIS, scouted the stadium’s security and identified it as a potential target for an attack during the 2023 football season.
According to findings from undercover communications, Swinford was in contact with an undercover officer from May to October 2023. He expressed intentions not only to attack the stadium but also mentioned aspirations to travel to Tunisia to join ISIS forces. Swinford noted that he "sadly" would have executed the plan had he possessed the financial means.
The documented conversations also indicate Swinford’s interest in a second target, New Orleans, particularly during Mardi Gras, where he contemplated an assault on a voodoo temple. In addition to charges stemming from these threats, Swinford has pleaded guilty to charges related to possession of child pornography and transmitting interstate threats.
Released Monday, these documents underline Swinford’s attempts to influence others, suggesting he aimed to inspire additional acts of violence on behalf of ISIS, including bombings at local synagogues.
The Gaylord Family — Oklahoma Memorial Stadium has been a staple of college football since 1923, with renovations completed ahead of the 2019 season, increasing its capacity to 80,126, although attendance records show it has hosted over 88,000 fans.
Swinford is awaiting sentencing for his previous charges. The community remains on high alert as the investigation continues.
