House District 72 Representative Michelle McCane Joins "No Kings Day" Protest in Tulsa
Tulsa, OK – On Saturday, Representative Michelle McCane stood shoulder-to-shoulder with protesters at the “No Kings Day” event in downtown Tulsa. This gathering was part of a broader national movement, featuring over 1,600 demonstrations across the country. Attendees expressed their concerns over what they perceive as authoritarianism and governmental overreach.
Representative McCane emphasized the significance of the movement, stating, “This is in my district. But also, I don’t support fascism—and I’m not ever going to support it.” She articulated her commitment to being an active citizen and an elected official who listens to her constituents’ frustrations, saying, “This is not what I voted for. This is not acceptable.”
In addressing the political implications of the moment, McCane remarked, “We took an oath to protect and uphold not only the Oklahoma Constitution, but the U.S. Constitution.” She criticized the current administration for what she described as “unconstitutional, ego-driven harm.”
Although Oklahoma is often perceived as a staunchly conservative state, McCane reminded attendees that it is not a monolith. “We have a mixture of folks,” she noted, representing a diverse array of political affiliations, including Democrats, Republicans, and independents. “Their expectation is the same: I’m supposed to be upholding the law and doing what’s right,” she asserted, indicating that the current trajectory does not align with those principles.
In response to skeptics who dismiss such protests as mere political theater, McCane insisted, “We can address immigration without violating the Constitution. You can be a Republican and disagree with fascist behavior.” Her firm stand reflects a growing sentiment among constituents who demand accountability and integrity from their leaders.
