RENTIESVILLE, OKLA (KTUL) — The life of Selby Minner, the beloved founder of the Oklahoma Blues Hall of Fame, ended in tragedy, yet her spirit lives on through her devoted family. Selby, known for her kindness and encouragement, is remembered as someone who always saw the best in others. Her granddaughter Danielle Minner spoke fondly of her, recounting her nurturing and calming influence. “She was never in a hurry, despite the many responsibilities she managed,” reflected Micaela Minner, another granddaughter.
Selby’s life was tragically cut short when she was allegedly killed by her brother, who suffered from mental illness. Family members emphasized the often-ignored love Selby had for him, highlighting her dedication to supporting him even amid personal challenges. Jason Chandler, a family member, noted the need for better mental health resources, stating that Selby’s commitment to caring for her brother was overshadowed by the circumstances of her death. “She did everything with her soul and heart, but lacked the systemic support necessary,” he remarked.
In the wake of this devastating loss, Selby’s family is determined to carry on her work in the blues community and honor her legacy. “We want to be part of the continuing legacy of the blues community in Oklahoma,” Micaela stated.
