Severe Weather Threat Looms Over Oklahoma City
Oklahoma City is bracing for a significant weather event as rain and storms are forecasted to hit later Thursday. KOCO 5 Meteorologist Jonathan Conder has issued a level 1 marginal risk for severe weather across western, central, and northern Oklahoma, including the Oklahoma City metro area.
The primary threats are expected to include damaging winds up to 60 mph and hail of approximately one inch in diameter. Rain will begin in western Oklahoma in the morning, with thunderstorms anticipated to develop around 3 p.m. in northwestern regions. These storms are expected to spread eastward into northern, west-central, and central Oklahoma by late afternoon.
The radar indicates that storms may reach the OKC metro from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., gradually moving out towards eastern Oklahoma. However, Conder notes the storms are likely to weaken following sunset.
Looking ahead, a quasi-wet weather pattern is anticipated to persist over the next week or two, indicating that while it may not rain every day, residents can expect daily chances of precipitation.
