New Golf Trail Set to Enhance State Tourism

Oklahoma Launches Ambitious Golf Trail to Boost Tourism

Oklahoma City, OK – The state of Oklahoma has unveiled an innovative initiative aimed at transforming the state into a premier golfing destination. Known as the Oklahoma Golf Trail, this project, backed by recent legislation, seeks to promote the state’s diverse golf courses and rich golfing history.

Lieutenant Governor Matt Pinnell, an enthusiastic golfer and tourism advocate, has been instrumental in the trail’s development. “We have some amazing golf courses, but we did not do a great job of promoting golf in Oklahoma,” Pinnell remarked. The initiative, established through House Bill 3764, led to the creation of the Golf Trail Commission, which is tasked with curating a selection of courses for visitors to explore.

The trail features a slogan: "Eighteen stops, one epic drive," highlighting the unique variety of golfing experiences available across the state. The initiative encompasses courses located from the scenic Grand Lake to the rolling hills of Tulsa and the expansive prairie courses in western Oklahoma. The promotional strategy will include a website and mobile app, allowing users to book tee times and connect directly with participating courses.

Inspired by Alabama’s successful Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, which has significantly boosted that state’s tourism revenue, Pinnell and the committee are optimistic about Oklahoma’s potential. “Our goal from the beginning is to bring people from all over the world," noted Mike Beverly, president of Sunbelt Golf Corporation.

While funding for the golf trail was not allocated in the current year’s state budget, former Representative Sheila Dills, who authored the original legislation, remains hopeful future successes might justify state financial support. Enthusiasts and officials alike are eager to see if the Oklahoma Golf Trail can replicate Alabama’s impressive accomplishments and attract golfers statewide and beyond.
