Oklahoma’s Jaydn Ott candidly compares Sooners and Cal: “These guys truly care.”

Press Release: Oklahoma Welcomes Star Running Back Jaydn Ott to Boost Offense Ahead of 2025 Season

NORMAN, OK – In a surprising move during the spring transfer window, standout running back Jaydn Ott has left California to join the Oklahoma Sooners. Following a disappointing tenure at Cal, where the team recorded a losing record throughout his three seasons, Ott wasted no time in making his choice, announcing his transfer just 24 hours after entering the portal.

Ott, ranked as the third-best running back in this year’s transfer class, expressed enthusiasm about the “levels” of commitment he’s observed at Oklahoma compared to his former team. “These guys care,” he stated. “It shows in how they treat their craft and prepare throughout the week.” This mentality shift comes at a crucial time for the Sooners, who are looking to improve their offensive performance under new coordinator Ben Arbuckle after finishing 11th in SEC rushing yards last season.

Despite battling an ankle injury that limited him to ten games last year, Ott showcased his potential in 2023 by amassing 1,305 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns, ranking ninth nationally with an average of 109.5 yards per game. He has also contributed significantly in the passing game, tallying 95 receptions for 736 yards and six touchdowns during his time in Berkeley.

As Ott joins fellow high-profile transfer quarterback John Mateer in the backfield, the Sooners aim to revitalize their game strategy ahead of their season opener against Illinois State on August 30. Coach Brent Venables is under pressure to turn around the program’s fortunes, and the addition of Ott may be just what Oklahoma needs to enhance its offensive lineup for the pivotal 2025 season.
