The Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum holds a special connection for married couple Jen and Tanner Blair. Despite being miles away from the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, both Jen and Tanner remembered hearing the blast while they were in school. They each painted tiles that are now on display at the memorial, but it wasn’t until years later that they realized their connection. A mutual friend spotted Jen’s tile, leading them to discover Tanner’s tile as well. The couple, who now live in Texas, have run the OKC Memorial Marathon and say the city will always be a part of their lives. Tanner describes the connection of having tiles at the memorial as more than a coincidence, calling it “bizarre” and a sign of fate. Now with a two-year-old son, Jen and Tanner want their experience and connection to the memorial to be a part of his life as well. Their story highlights the lasting impact of the tragic event on the lives of Oklahomans and how people continue to be connected by the events of that day.
