Weather-Related Highway Closures Announced in Oklahoma
Oklahoma City, OK – May 24, 2023 – The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) has issued a statement regarding multiple highway closures across the state due to severe weather conditions. As of 10:00 a.m. this morning, high water and ongoing storm cleanup efforts have resulted in several road restrictions.
In Atoka County, SH-131 has been reopened just east of Wardville after previous flooding. Meanwhile, in Bryan and Marshall Counties, all lanes of the US-70/Roosevelt Bridge and its causeway between State Park Road and Willow Springs Road over Lake Texoma are now open, despite prior flooding damage; officials confirmed the bridge remains safe for travel.
However, some routes remain closed, including SH-80 in Cherokee County, located west of Hulbert, due to significant flooding. Love County’s US-77S is also closed at the Lake Murray Spillway because of similar conditions. On a more positive note, SH-63 in Pittsburg County has been cleared and reopened between US-270 in Haileyville and US-69 in Kiowa following necessary storm damage cleanup.
ODOT urges motorists to avoid driving around barricades and to stay informed about current road conditions. Travelers can call 844-4OK-HWYS (844-465-4997) for updates, visit okroads.org, or download the Drive Oklahoma mobile app for real-time information.
